"Human rights are women's rights" Human rights are universal and civil.Political, economic, social and cultural rights belong to all human beings including women, children, men and young people (the people's movement for human rights, 2007) as a working definition for Leéiyen.

The United Nations Universal Declaration on human Rights (U.D.H.R) which recognizes the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family, as the foundation of justice and peace in the world, is a principle Leéiyen is using.

The violation of women's human rights remains a pandemic which in most cases is exemplified in the form of violence against women in both the public and domestic spheres.

The situation is according to UNIFEM a problem of pandemic proportion where at least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime with the abuser someone known to her(parents, brother, teacher etc).

All these human rights violations devastated lives, divided communities and stalled development.
